The maximum penalty for wage offences has been raised
Under the Employment Ordinance, employers have the statutory responsibility to pay wages on time. Any employer who fails to do so wilfully and without reasonable excuse commits an offence. With effect from 30 March 2006, the maximum penalty for wage offences has been raised to a fine of $350,000 and imprisonment for three years.
