Working Hours Policy
The Government in April 2013 set up the Standard Working Hours Committee (SWHC), comprising representatives of employers and employees, academics, community leaders and Government officials, to follow up on the “Report of the Policy Study on Standard Working Hours” (Full Text / Executive Summary) published by the Labour Department (LD) in November 2012, engage the public in informed and in-depth discussions on working hours issues, collect views and identify the way forward.
SWHC submitted the “Report of the Standard Working Hours Committee” (Full Text / Executive Summary) to the Government in January 2017 to put up recommendations on working hours policy direction. The term of SWHC expired on 31 January 2017.
LD is engaging its industry-based tripartite committees (comprising representatives of LD, employers and employees) to find a suitable way to formulate working hours guidelines for reference and adoption by employers and their employees.
