International Labour Organisation and Application of International Labour Conventions
- The International Labour Organisation (ILO) is a specialised agency
of the United Nations with the objective of raising working and living
standards throughout the world. The ILO promulgates labour standards
in the form of International Labour Conventions (ILCs) and Recommendations.
- Currently, 31 ILCs
are applied to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).
The ILCs applied to the HKSAR cover a wide range of labour issues such
as conditions of work, employment policy, employees' compensation, labour
relations and occupational safety and health etc.
- The HKSAR participates in a variety of ILO activities, including
the International Labour Conference, Asia and the Pacific Regional Meetings, regional
seminars, workshops and technical meetings. The HKSAR also receives
and maintains close liaison with ILO officials and delegates from other
labour administrations through various programmes organised by the ILO.
